JCK'S LUXURY SHOW BEGINS, KICKING OFF LAS VEGAS JEWELRY WEEK
A High-End Community of Designers, Buyers Converge, Positively

Las Vegas, NV (May 29, 2013) - LUXURY, JCK Events' high-end show opened its doors to select retailers with an exclusive 3-day preview event. Invited retailers perused the collections of 240 exhibitors, including the designer brand exhibitors of Elite Enclave, in a relaxed, upscale environment. Later in the week, LUXURY will open its doors to all badge holders in conjunction with the opening of the JCK Las Vegas main show floor. LUXURY takes place at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center through Monday, June 3.
LUXURY, in its 14th year, is an exclusive, high-end collection of brands that has become a must-attend event for top retailers around the country. With an environment that feels refined and private, and which caters to networking and business dealings, the show has become something of a community for attendees. Exhibitors, all of a certain high-quality caliber, look forward to presenting alongside one another, while attending retailers are equally prestigious and appreciate the curated selection of brands and merchandise. The community spirit is evident in the daily group breakfasts, lunches in the well-appointed LUXURY dining salon, and daily events which can be accessed by LUXURY all-access badge holders only, including the LUXURY Gala event set to take place this evening.
At the close of Day 1, the camaraderie and amenities combined with the reportedly "very" strong assortment of product proved a recipe for success. Retailers remarked on the quality of merchandise, dialogues were begun, and sales were made.
"We are feeling very positive after the first day," said Scott Wanstrath of Whitehouse Bros. "It's our first time exhibiting at LUXURY and we have already met several new retailers, including a few international ones. The retailers we met are looking for new product, which we can offer and since it's Day 1, they are fresh and ready to do business."
In addition to the community of exhibitors and retailers, members of the consumer press were in attendance and provided a vote of confidence for the strength of the show. The editors were quick to point out some early emerging trends, such as brightly colored gemstones and mixed metals.

LUXURY opens to all attendees on Friday and continues through Monday, June 3

ON THE HEELS OF LUXURY'S ATTENDANCE BOOM, JCK LAS VEGAS OPENS
Day 1 Saw Strong Numbers and Buzzed with Excitement for the Days to Come

JCK Las Vegas, North America’s leading jewelry trade show, opened its doors today to begin its 22nd year in business. The 2013 show consists of over 2,500 manufacturers and designers representing 32 countries, including 300 new exhibitors, and covers every corner of the jewelry industry, from the most sought after brands to fashion and up-and-coming talent. JCK Las Vegas takes place at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino and runs through Monday June 3.
JCK Las Vegas features the most exhibitors of any Jewelry Week show spread over a broad range of categories from bridal and emerging artisan-quality designers to high-end fine jewelry and luxury timepieces. Loose stones, materials, packaging supplies, and merchandising displays are also available. With such breadth of product presented, the show is able to provide one-stop shopping for vendors and retailers alike. The show is divided into specific sections, making the expansive offerings easy to find and shop. The Design Center features trend-setting, innovative and up-and-coming designers such as Jason Dow, Susan Wheeler and Karin Jameison, while the classic fine jewelry staples of LUXURY include presentations from A. Link, Simon G., Tacori and Mastoloni, to name a few. Between Watches at JCK, featuring brands such as Brera and Ritmo Mundo, and Swiss Watch, home to more than 30 luxury watch brands, including Tag Heuer, Gucci and Breitling, there is indeed something for everyone.
Beyond the sheer number of amazing brands to see over the show’s four days, JCK is intent on providing an atmosphere that is prime for networking, learning and enjoyment. With ample social lounges and daily happy hour gatherings, the opportunity to mix, mingle, and do business won’t be hard to come by. The roster of daily educational seminars (topics include sales training, merchandising, inventory management, and social media) are carefully orchestrated and timely, ensuring value and relevance to those in the industry. JCK has also planned its annual ‘JCK Rocks the Beach’ party for Sunday night; the eve of the show’s closing. The talented and wildly popular Maroon 5 is on tap to perform and will undoubtedly bring the crowd to its feet in celebration of yet another banner year.
With so much to take advantage of and still more to come, retailers and members of the press were out in full force, each commenting on what the show had to offer and the highlights so far:
Severine Ferrari of Engagement 101 commented, “I was very impressed with the bridal designs; there was a lot of variety and alternatives to the halo, from modern designs to vintage. I saw a lot of color innovation, specifically with metals: two-tone metals and seamlessly fused metals together. Another thing I noticed is that designers seem to really be paying attention to the consumer and delivering on requests for unique, different, and custom creations.”
Mari Lou MC Cann of Mari Lou’s Fine Jeweler in Orlando, FL remarked on the ease and organization of the show, “We’ve been to the show many times and I can honestly say we are having the best show ever. Everything from start to finish has gone extremely well. We breezed through registration even though it was very busy, the layout of the show, with all of the different areas separated very clearly, is easy to navigate, and we’ve really enjoyed the comforts of the VIP lounge.”
From the exhibitor side, Anna Ruth Henriques of Anna Ruth Henriques Jewelry was “very happy” with Day 1’s attendance, sharing “We met with all new doors today and everyone was interested in something different. It was a very diverse, yet quality group. We are looking forward to meeting even more new customers over the next few days.”
In addition to the great energy on JCK’s main floor, the AGTA GemFair™ section of the show is open and buzzing as well. JCK runs through Monday, June 3.

The Cannes DPA 2013 gift suite will also feature amazing jewellery companies, with a big presence of bracelets:
  • We are very excited to have CHAN LUU in our suite. Chan Luu’s trademark is her artistic skill in combining organic shapes with contemporary ideas to create a line that’s unique, wearable, and hand-made. • ENZA COSTA will have amazing items for the top stars attending our suite. Sold in the most prestigious stores in the world (such as Merci or Montaigne market in Paris), and Designed to transform everyday basics into luxury essentials, Enza Costa's unique brand of minimalist, modern clothing is crafted with featherweight blends of sumptuous supima cotton, cashmere and silk.
  • Finally Italian shoemaker ROCCOP (found at super Beverly hills shoe store Madison) will launch its exquisite tennis shoes-loafer with leather top that men and women will fight to have.

The Beauty will not be left on the side in the DPA gift suite, and we are very proud of some of the products presented this year:
  • Found at super famous Paris concept store, Colette, BIOEFFECT® will gift its Award winning BIOEFFECT® EGF SERUM, serum based on 10 years of biotechnology research in Iceland. Representing the future of scientific skin care, BIOEFFECT® EGF SERUM contains Nobel Prize winning Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF), that signals the skin to speed up its renewal process. DONNA DISTEFANO, ROYAL ASSCHER, AND BANNEKER WATCHES COLLABORATE WITH DIAMOND EMPOWERMENT FUND ON NEW JEWELRY LINES

Diamond Empowerment Fund (DEF) introduced a new line of Empowerment Jewelry at JCK Las Vegas, collaborating with leading jewelry designers who support DEF’s mission of empowering the next generation of African leaders in diamond producing countries.

Jewelry Designer Donna Distefano’s stylish and sustainable collection of bracelets titled ‘Illumination’ was created to be symbolic, accessible, and versatile. Each bracelet, co-designed by Elizabeth Hamrick, bears a silver emblem representing some of the values of DEF: transformation, tranquility, and strength. Set with diamonds, the silver symbols slide on leather-look ultra-suede straps, making them suitable for men and women as well as being animal friendly.

Royal Asscher has created a tsavorite and diamond pendant for DEF as part of the Stars of Africa collection. This unique pendant is comprised of green tsavorite and diamonds encased in a fluid-filled natural sapphire dome, allowing jewels to fall freely like snowflakes in a snow globe.  The design won ‘best in show’ at JCK and is an example of the Asscher Family’s long-standing commitment to integrity, quality and giving back.

Banneker Watches, is introducing a line of watches for DEF which incorporate their signature design of luxury woods combined with diamonds and green crystals.

Russell Simmons, global business mogul, entrepreneur, philanthropist and co-founder of DEF, shares these designers vision of transformation as it is the cornerstone to DEF’s mission. “It is important to support and encourage the youth of Africa to make a positive change in the world. DEF Empowerment Jewelry will contribute to this vision” affirms Simmons. Each designer has also joined DEF’s Diamonds for Good Membership Program to further show support for DEF and to contribute to scholarships for these young people.

JCK LAS VEGAS CLOSES, SENDS INDUSTRY HOME ENERGIZED AND ENTHUSED
Strong Attendance & Robust Interest in Bridal, Colored Stones

JCK Las Vegas 2013 came to a close Monday, June 3rd, marking the end of Las Vegas Jewelry Week. The Show was largely attended, with representation from over 40 countries, between exhibitors, attending retailers and press. Product, of course, was the star of the show with all in attendance remarking on the quality and range of designs shown. As such, sales were strong and the overall vibe was one of enthusiasm end excitement for the jewelry industry and the months ahead.

JCK Las Vegas is North America’s leading jewelry show. Now in its 22nd year, the show took place at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino and featured collections from 2,500 jewelry industry exhibitors.

Known for its extensive range and diversity of offerings, JCK is comprised of specific sections: fine jewelry fills the halls of LUXURY, Elite Enclave, Plumb Club, and Prestige Promenade, luxury timepieces can be viewed (with appointments only) at Swiss Watch, the Design Center boasts innovative, artisan-quality jewelry and the main JCK show floor is home to Watches at JCK, the VICENZAORO Italian Pavilion, Hong Kong, and India. The product, combined with a bustling itinerary of networking events, education seminars and entertainment, including a high-octane Maroon 5 performance, made the show an unforgettable, must-attend event.

With so many categories and brands available to see in one place, product trends, themes and buying patterns were easy to spot. The top trending areas were bridal (particularly twists on classic designs and custom offerings), colored stones and fashion jewelry, such as charms and thin, stackable rings. Snake and other animal motifs, as well as coin jewelry, were highly visible on the show floor. Vibrant greens, which have been trending all year, showed no signs of slowing down and were one half the subject JCK’s successful “Green or Black & White” Twitter contest.

Show attendees covered much ground thanks to JCK’s mobile app, which included a g.p.s. navigational system and a QR scanner. The QR scanner, which scans the badges of all exhibitors seen and sends a post-show report, made buyers feel comfortable moving quickly from appointment to appointment, knowing it was all being digitally catalogued for them. Also contributing to the massive ground covered, JCK’s “Meet & Greet” sweepstakes, which encouraged attendees to venture to outer areas of the exhibition space in order to drop off their sweepstakes ballots. Strong sales may have been helped by the over 500 “Show Specials” which were made available to buyers by many exhibitors.

Events focused on fashion and industry trends were also well-attended. On Saturday, The Knot, sponsor of the Show’s Bridal Lounge, threw an Engagement Party celebrating the category and filled with exclusive tips for the industry, while on Sunday, Le Vian’s® annual Fashion Show, with proceeds benefitting Jewelers for Children, showcased the hottest trends for 2014.

With so much to see and experience, feedback poured in throughout the week:

"We've been coming to the Show since its inception and this was one of the most successful years,“ remarked Ronald Leitzel of Mount Jewelers in Camp Hill, PA. “We accomplished a lot and enjoyed the networking with other retailers, sharing ideas and recommendations for new and interesting collections."
“We have had a great show and been busy with appointments the entire time. Customers are confident, excited and buying again. We feel blessed to be here,” said Amir and Tamara Goldfiner of Rahaminov Diamonds.

“JCK is one of the highlights of my year to preview stunning jewelry and discover the newest trends,” said Jennie Ma, Fashion Editor at The Knot.

“JCK Rocks the Beach, featuring Maroon 5, was incredible, and I’m honored that Jewelers Mutual Insurance Company could be a part of the festivities,” shared Darwin Copeman, President and CEO, Jewelers Mutual Insurance. “We’re celebrating our Centennial Anniversary and it was fun to share the milestone in such an upbeat environment with so many of our jewelry industry partners and members.”

IGI Mumbai Moves Operations to Bandra-Kurla Complex

Today marks the inauguration of the International Gemological Institute’s (IGI) new offices at Mumbai’s Capital Bandra-Kurla Complex. The move is aimed at serving the industry – which is gradually moving its center of operations to the new diamond bourse – better and more efficiently. In attendance will be guest of honor, Vipul Shah, the chairman of the Gems & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC), IGI's worldwide co-CEO Roland Lorie and other prominent industry members.
IGI will offer full industry services from its new location at the diamond bourse. The Institute will be housed in over 50,000 square feet of office space and will offer an entirely new customer experience, including Tatkal, a special one-day option for urgent deliveries. It will also offer pick-up and drop-off at both its bourse location and at customers’ offices. Accuracy and service have always been cornerstones at IGI and will be further reinforced at the new premises.
IGI services are now available at four Mumbai locations, in addition to ten labs across India – certification of loose stones and jewelry offered at the capital; mobile lab grading services for Zaveri Bazzar and surrounding areas remain at Opera House; IGI's school of gemology operates from Opera House and special courses are also offered at Bandra-Kurla; IGI MIDC will continue its jewelry certification services, as well as IGI SEEPZ’s services for the export markets. Additionally, mobile labs will be operational from all IGI offices.
“The Bandra-Kurla office will offer state-of-the-art facilities, upgraded systems and convenient delivery options for our clients,” said Tehmasp Printer,  the managing director of IGI India. “Operating full-service facilities at four prime locations in Mumbai, we offer the competitive advantage of being closer to diamantaires’ offices, as well as jewelry manufacturers’ factories. Our singular focus is to offer better and more efficient services.”
IGI first established a laboratory in India in 1999, when third-party certification and international grading standards had not yet been fully introduced in the region. India was already an important manufacturing center, but most certification and trading took place outside of the country. IGI took on the challenge of educating the Indian diamond industry and, since its inception, has instructed a significant cross-section of the industry – from manufacturers, to sorters and polishers. To date, tens of thousands of people have enrolled in IGI’s courses. Pearls of the World in Focus
GIA at the Singapore International Jewelry Expo, July 4-7

Pearls and their beauty have captivated people worldwide since ancient times and have been a research focus at GIA (Gemological Institute of America) for more than 80 years. As part of the Institute’s mission to bring industry-leading gemological information to the public, Nicholas Sturman, GIA supervisor of Pearl Identification in Thailand, will give two presentations on pearls July 4 and 5 during the Singapore International Jewelry Expo. Representatives from GIA in Thailand will greet attendees at its booth A07, July 4-6from 11:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., and on July 7 from 11:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Pearls: Are They or Aren’t They?
Thursday, July 4, 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.

Over time, the industry has developed various types of cultured pearls and pearl imitations to compete with their natural counterparts and to meet market demand. Sturman’s presentation will focus on the daily challenges pearl testers in labs like GIA must address before issuing gemological reports, which separate natural nacreous and non-nacreous pearls from cultured examples, and pearls from pearl-looking materials.

Saltwater Cultured Pearl Farms of Vietnam, Philippines
and Northern Australia
Friday, July 5, 1-3 p.m.

Techniques used to culture bead-nucleated pearls in saltwater environments are similar around the world, however, there is a degree of variation in the methods different operators use. This presentation will discuss the history, operations, procedures applied and mollusks used in Vietnam, the Philippines and Northern Australia in the quest to produce the ultimate nucleated cultured pearl.

With more than 23 years of experience in the detailed examination of pearls, Sturman brings a unique perspective to this topic. He obtained his Fellowship (FGA) and Diamond Membership (DGA) of the Gemmological Association of Great Britain and spent more than 16 years studying pearls in the Kingdom of Bahrain, where he served as the gemological advisor to the Bahrain Government’s Gem and Pearl Testing Laboratory. He has been with GIA since 2008.

GIA’s pearl presentations, which are free and open to the public, will take place at the Stage Area, Marina Bay Sands Hall A&B, at the Marina Bay Sands Hotel in Singapore.
